Idaho’s collegiate esports leader, Vandal Esports offers both varsity and club-level competition with strong academic ties and community-building. Founded in fall 2023, Vandal Esports has rapidly grown into a competitive and welcoming esports environment, with students often describing it as “like their family away from home” under the leadership of director Wayne Ebenroth.

Since fall 2022, the program found a permanent home: a dedicated gaming lab in the basement of the Bruce M. Pitman Center (Room 040). The lab is free for student use, though some machines are reserved during team practices or tournaments.

The setup includes: 30 Lenovo Legion T5 desktops, powered by i7‑13700 CPUs and NVIDIA RTX 4070 GPUs, paired with Lenovo Y27-30 monitors. Console options including 10 Nintendo Switches, 5 PlayStation 5s, and 3 Xbox Xs.

Hours of operation are structured to balance open play with varsity needs. The program also hosts outreach and community-building events, including youth gaming camps and social gatherings, helping extend its footprint beyond competitive play.
