UH Hilo Esports Club / Lava Landing – Hilo, Big Island, HI, USA
Lava Landing is the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo’s designated esports and student gaming lounge. As part of the school’s commitment to student life and recreation, it offers casual console/PC play, lounge events, and competitive club teams. The Esports Club, branded under campus Recreation & Wellness, operates in the Campus Center. This gaming lounge has recently been relocated to the 2nd floor of the Campus Center.
The space is used to organize teams and casual play for titles such as League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, Counter‑Strike, Hearthstone, Valorant, Call of Duty, Fortnite, Apex Legends, Smite, and more.
A beloved feature of Lava Landing is “Da Lava Tube”, a free play gameroom for UH Hilo students offering amenities like billiards, table tennis, Nintendo Switch games (including Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart), darts, and more. Students can reserve one-hour sessions via the Lava Landing Appointment system—or opt for walk-ins when slots are open. Non‑UH Hilo students may participate for a nominal fee.
The lounge hosts casual community gatherings such as the UH Hilo Smash Bros. Ultimate club, which meets weekly—offering a fun, welcoming environment for players of all skill levels.
