UNM Esports Club – Student-Gaming Hub at University of New Mexico
An active student-run esports community offering competitive teams & open community nights—even for non-students. What started as laid-back dorm LAN parties has evolved into UNM Esports—an inclusive, vibrant and competitive hub welcoming over 130 active members from all gaming backgrounds. This is a space where newcomers and seasoned players collide over shared passion, bridging casual meetups with structured competition.
The club extends beyond the campus Wi‑Fi: one weekend, UNM’s teams dominated the NMSU Invitational, capturing first-place trophies in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Mario Kart, and Splatoon 3, and showcasing their competitive edge across multiple game titles. They’ve also made headway on the national stage, with their Splatoon 3 team clinching the Collegiate Cephalopod Association’s Division 5 championship—a proud milestone for the program.
This isn’t just about gameplay—it’s community building with purpose. UNM Esports organizes free weekly events (like Super Smash Bros tournaments led by student organizers), supports varsity-level esports teams, and powers livestream broadcasts that connect gamers across the state and beyond.
