A collegiate esports facility supporting Cumberland University’s growing varsity program. Nestled within Alumni Hall and adjacent to campus life’s beating heart, the Cumberland Esports Gaming Arena opened in 2021 as a compact 10-monitor esports lab designed to support the university’s evolving varsity program—and has since expanded significantly to accommodate growing demand.

Built to serve dedicated student-athletes, the arena has dramatically matured: beyond its original setup, the facility now offers multiple dedicated practice zones and an expanded gaming area—a testament to esports’ rapid rise as a recognized athletic pursuit on campus. The program is led by Director Spencer Claypool, whose leadership recently earned finalist recognition for “Esports Program and Director of the Year”.

Cumberland competes at a high level across a broad array of titles, including Overwatch, Rocket League, Valorant, Call of Duty, Madden, NBA 2K, and more. The program is known for its varsity success, including multiple conference championships and national titles, supported by two fully equipped arenas for student-athlete training and programming balance.
