WVU Potomac State Esports Arena – Keyser, WV, USA

A varsity-level esports arena offering dedicated gaming stations for competitive play. The Collegiate Gaming Club (CGC) at WVU operates under the auspices of club sports and recreation, offering Morgantown’s student body a vibrant esports community. While not tied to a dedicated on‑campus arena, the club is deeply woven into WVU’s larger esports ecosystem—spanning club-organized LANs, varsity esports teams, and inclusive gaming culture.
Founded in 2017, CGC quickly gained attention by hosting the first Eastern Esports Conference Championship—an intercollegiate League of Legends tournament founded and organized by WVU students. Since launching varsity esports in October 2021, the program now fields teams in Rocket League, Valorant, Call of Duty, and Madden, with multiple national titles under its belt and frequent appearances at NACE national championships in Orlando.
Beyond varsity competition, CGC offers a robust community platform: members host “Up All Night” PC gaming nights in the Student Recreation Center and organize weekend LANs, tournaments, and watch parties in the Mountainlair Student Union—all freely accessible to club members and often open to broader student participation.
CGC supports a wide spectrum of participation—from competitive tryouts to casual gamer meetups, and student-led events including D&D sessions, tabletop channels, and social Discord hangouts. The club’s Discord remains active with hundreds of members, acting as the central digital hub for announcements, matchmaking, and social gaming.
WVU’s Esports Business & Entertainment (ESPT) degree program also complements CGC’s mission—integrating varsity esports, event management, and digital media into a pioneering academic offering. The program hosts conferences like the Responsible Gaming Symposium and youth outreach initiatives like Bridge Battle Royale camps, further expanding WVU esports into the public sector.
In sum, WVU’s Collegiate Gaming Club acts as a dynamic gateway to esports—not just for varsity teams but for all students interested in gaming, community, and mentorship. It combines competitive structure, social engagement, and academic opportunity in a uniquely Mountaineer way.
