UTC Esports Complex – Chattanooga, TN, USA

A polished campus esports arena with gaming PCs and upcoming console integration. Housed in Room 201 of Maclellan Gym, the UTC Esports Complex represents the university’s major step toward establishing a structured, varsity-caliber esports presence. Transitioning from a club-run initiative to a formal program under the Office of Information Technology in July 2024, this move marked a definitive shift in UTC’s esports elevation strategy.

The facility hosts 25 top-tier gaming PCs, each outfitted with AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D processors, Radeon RX 7800 XT graphics, hyper-responsive 280 Hz ASUS TUF monitors, SteelSeries peripherals, and ergonomic Respawn chairs—delivering a high-performance environment that supports competitive and recreational gaming alike.

Available free to students through swipe-in access, the complex also provides structured support for UTC’s esports teams—including varsity and academy squads competing in titles such as Call of Duty, Valorant, League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate—with scholarship opportunities and academic expectations maintained across all participants.

This space doubles as a social hub and learning environment. It supports casual gaming drop-ins and promotes academic integration, such as hosting gaming tech courses and content-production activities.

UTC’s esports program is centered around esports coordinator Chase Daffron—an alum and current MBA student—who pilots team operations, outreach, and a growing campus community. With approximately 60 students currently involved, the program emphasizes not just competition, but professional growth, brand-building, and personal development both in and beyond gameplay.

Through this blend of elite infrastructure, academic alignment, and student-driven culture, UTC’s Esports Complex has quickly become a vibrant, multi-dimensional campus fixture, supporting competition, creativity, and community in Chattanooga’s collegiate esports landscape.
